Notes from the Point
Well, well well. It seems like it’s been quite some time since I’ve made a post here. I guess that is what happens when you get busy working and go to bed by 930. At any rate, I wanted to fill some of you all in on the bird happenings out on the point as of late.
Just today we had our first Warbling Vireos of the year singing here at the Palomarin Field Station. Other recent arrivals include Wilson’s Warbler (which I haven’t detected yet), Orange-crowned Warbler, and Barn and Tree Swallows. Of course migration really isn’t in full swing yet, but we are seeing a lot of the resident species, most of which are getting geared up for breeding. The everyday birds as of late include California Quail, Hutton’s Vireo, Spotted and California Towhees, Song Sparrow, Purple Finch, White-crowned Sparrow (Nuttall’s subspecies), and Steller’s and Western Scrub-Jays.
Every once in a while a flock of Band-tailed Pigeons or a Peregrine Falcon will fly over making a nice appearance.
Well, that’s it for now. Time for another net run.
