3/18/2006 Palo Banding

Filed under: Chat, Bird Sightings, Bird Banding — March 18, 2006 @ 10:52 pm

Greetings,

Today we had yet another slow day at Palo. Our only birds captured were a previously caught After Hatch Year Wrentit (color combo- OS/MG), and a newly caught Third Year, female, Northern (Red-shafted) Flicker. The Flicker is pictured below:

Other birds of note today around the field station (but not in the nets) included two fly-over adult PEREGRINE FALCONS, 4 TREE SWALLOWS, 1 BARN SWALLOW, 2 singing ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, and an adult male ALLEN’S HUMMINGBIRD which frequently visited the feeder next to the banding lab (below).

The nets were closed early due to wind, far short of a full day’s worth of work (64/120 hrs). Hopefully tomorrow will be more produvitive for the other banders here at Palo.
