Amazing Show
Life was good this afternoon standing in a downpour overlooking the serengeti with buddies Carol and Finn. Lightening danced everywhere –even a little too close, and the setting sun played tricks with the colors of the dead grass, wet trees and heavy clouds. Bird life was intense. Geese (mostly Canada but at least a few Snow mixed in “barking”) were cris-crossing the sky in every direction, a mysterious raptor (that I’m now thinking was a Northern Goshawk due to its flight style and size) flew by, and Wild Turkey were yelping like crazy. Lightening struck very close and the noise made 8 Wood Ducks take flight not more than 30 meters from us. Further down in the swamp, we were standing on the forest edge as Canada Geese fell from the sky landing on the water rightin front of us -it was very cool. At least one drake Gadwall joined Mallards and the Geese on the water. This was all dramatized by a light fog, thunder, and rain making it a great break from a bad case of the mundays.
A lone spring peeper, and a couple of longbeards spiced up our walk home.
More proof that nature will never let you down.
Ryan
p.s. the serengeti is what we call the western-most side of the Lime Hollow Nature Center Property. Hard to get to, full of wildlife.
