dandy dawn
This morning was the first time in the last 12 days or so that I came across a good mix of migrants. While hunting the Robinson Hollow area in northern Tioga county, I came across a flock of BLACKPOLL (4+), TENNESSEE(2+), BLACKBURNIAN 1, and MOURNING WARBLERS 1 joined by 8 other warbler species. The bird song was just marvelous with many VEERYs, OVENBIRDS and COMMON YELLOWTHROATS.
In the Lime Hollow area, I have yet to experience high numbers of Blackburnian Warblers and Scarlet Tanagers that are usually present during breeding season.
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS have been cooperative for me so far. Last thursday I gave a few Kluuq Kluuq Kluuq calls and two cuckoos came flying right at me; very crazy. I tried the same trick on Saturday’s bird walk and 4 female PURPLE FINCHES buzzed me ; so use this technique with some discression.
to continue this ramble, from my current knowledge of the nestbox kingdom, we have had 2 successful woodduck boxes and 2 successful bluebird boxes so far. It appeared to me that several Bluebirds in the area have been prospecting for a second nest attempt. PLEASE watch your step (and your dog’s step) this time of year as there are many miniature camouflaged birds hopping around the forest and meadow.
Bird it up,
Ryan

Ry,
Sounds awesome with the warbler flock! How I miss those birds. Currently warblers in my neck of the woods are primarily Orange-crowned and Wilson’s. There are also a few Common Yellowthroats and Yellow-rumps around, but that is it…
