Day 3
Well Day 3 ended with a successful drive from Oklahoma City, OK to Flagstaff, AZ. The trip was long without a lot of bird activity, but it was still beautiful nonetheless…even with all that LFN and mesquite hanging around.
In Oklahoma City, Great-tailed Grackles paid their first visit of the trip and were seen from there all the way through east New Mexico. In west Oklahoma Chihuahuan Ravens flew by in small groups, and in northern Texas multitudes of meadowlarks were on the fences lining I-40. Only when we stopped for gas was I able to hear any vocalize and it turned out to be a singing Western. Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese flew over the northern stretch of TX, but only at a distance. Several ponds held a gathering of ducks with the best one being a single male Northern Shoveler. That’s about it for now from what I can remember. Hopefully tomorrow I can spot a Ferruginous Hawk since I missed any today.
Until next time,
~Chad (3/6/06)

Jeez man can’t believe you’re back in AZ already… I presume everything is going smooth. Just remember Ferruginous Hawks disguise themselves as Osprey sitting on land.
