FOS Phoebe and GB Heron

Greetings,

After working a straight 9.5 hrs at work today, I
didn’t really have birds on the brain too much as I
planned on a relaxing evening at home. However as I
made my way up the sidewalk outside my house I heard
the distinctive song of an EASTERN PHOEBE nearby. With
a few seconds of searching I was able to find the bird
in question sitting atop the Norway Maple in my yard
blowing in the breeze.

The next First of Season (FOS) bird to be observed
today was a single GREAT BLUE HERON whose flight was
silhouetted against the western sky towards sunset. It
was observed coasting along the Claverack Creek. The
first of many to come I am sure.

While it wasn’t a day set for birding, it sure felt
good to see those species again, and for the first
time this year.
