Heislerville Shorebirds/Peregrine Falcon

Greetings,

Last night before dark my housemates and I drove over to the Heislerville WMA to look over the shorebird flocks to get an idea of what was going on regarding the movements of the thousands of birds that were using it during the day in hopes of banding them in the future. All in all we saw a good number of birds including Dunlin, Short-billed Dowitcher, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-bellied Plover, and to a lesser extent a few Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers which are our primary targets.

The highlight of course was the young Peregrine Falcon that took a dive at the flying flocks of shorebirds. The bird was observed for a short period of time but it was very clear as to its identification. Our thoughts was that he secured a small bird as he flew away and did not come back. Lots of hopes for later today too.
