Timberdoodle Tango
Greetings,
After several tries, my girlfriend Betsi and I were finally successful in finding American Woodcocks for the first time this spring. Unexpectedly, the place that we finally detected them was in her yard! We had actually tried there several nights ago for I was suspicious that her property housed American Woodcocks, unfortunately we were either too early in the season, or too late in the evening. However, tonight was different…
Around 7:20pm we decided to go outside to listen for woodcocks and owls, but before we ventured outside we cracked the window to her room for a quick listen. Within 10 seconds we heard our first “Peeent” from the nearby field’s edge. 5 minutes later we were outside in a field surrounded by displaying woodcocks in dusk’s twilight. In fact, no fewer than 6 male American Woodcocks were detected calling and displaying in the night sky. For both of us this was a real treat as it was my first ones in three years (my two previous years in CA), and her first ones ever. Truly a memory I’ll cherish forever. How amazing…
Peent on,
~Chad
